What is a thing?

Things are virtual objects belonging to your TBG account.
Things are freely transferable between accounts.
Things are represented by a small image.

Things do not have a value.
Things do not have a purpose.
That is unless you give them one.__________________________________________________________

Giving Things
To give another user one of your things just make a post here explaining who you want to give what (and maybe why you are giving it to them). I will then transfer the thing to that user's vault.

Trading Things
Fill out this form to trade things with another user:

Trading with: [user's name]
Offering: [what you want to give them]
Requesting: [what you want them to give you]

If that user accepts I will transfer the things between vaults.

Vaults
A vault is a post I make where I keep track of your things. When you sign up for a vault I will link it here. Vaults may not be shared between accounts.

Secondary Vaults
Users are allowed to open up to 2 secondary vaults (for now).
Secondary vaults can be used for whatever you want, such as businesses or collections.
Things can be freely transferred between your vaults.
Secondary vaults can be named whatever you want, just tell me the name when you want to open one.
Up to 1 (one) secondary vault may be shared between accounts.

After you make a thing it will go directly to your vault.

Mass producing things
Yeah, one thing is nice, but what if you wanted two? ten? a hundred?
Mass producing allows you to produce a large quantity of the same thing.
Here is the form for mass producing things:

Amount of things produced: (min 2, max 10000)

You can only mass produce something once per day.

Thing Transformation

The incinerator can convert any thing directly into a rusted thing.
You can use it on a maximum of 10000 things per day.

There are no laws yet

To propose a change in the law make a post explaining what you want changed and why.
If after 72 hours more people vote for the change vs against it the law will be passed. (You cannot vote on your own law)

Thingland Center of Entrepreneurship

Examples of a businesses include shops, banks, etc.

How to make a business:
Just make your own file in the Game Files subforum explaining your business and how to use it and I will link it here.

Thing transfers made via a thing business will be made with the help of business reports. Business reports must be posted into the main topic (here) by the owner of the business in order for a transaction to officially happen.

Here is an example:

Bob opens hot dog store
John trades a rock for a hot dog
Sarah trades a lamp for 3 hot dogs
Bob posts the following business report

Bob's Hot Dog Store Business Report
John buys a hot dog with a rock
Sarah buys 3 hot dogs with a lamp

It is important to note that businesses can only transfer things between vaults, not create new ones.

Things Points
Points are completely point-less (heh get it) but having lots of points lets you brag to people with less points. And also you can sell things for points n stuff or change their value in the Things Stock Market

The value of items will be added here. You can buy and sell items if you wish (and have sufficient points). You cannot change the value of a Thing, or set it to zero, UNLESS you are the only person to own that Thing and it is currently not on the Stock Market/Store.

In order to set a value for a Thing, you must vote for it. A certain number of TBGers must agree to the vote, and at least 50% of those must be a "yes" vote. Otherwise, the Thing will not receive a value.

You may only vote once per day, and a specific Thing can only be added to a vote once per week

Things Stock Market
You can now invest in Things and get Things back! Maybe.

How to do it
To start, add Things into the Giant Thing Machine 6000 and they will be turned into assets on the stock market. Over time, Things will generate Points, and gain value (per unit). These will increase or decrease over time, depending on (mostly random) factors, but having large amounts of a Thing in circulation will decrease the value. You can then sell your stocks to other users for Points, or withdraw. Idk. I'm just making crap up.

I feel like the whole point system with assigning numerical values to things goes against the whole point of things. If it were a business I think it would be fine but I really don't think it should be a baked in feature.

Points is 100% optional and pointless. You don't have to use it at all if you don't like it.

There are plenty of TBGs around that have pointless points systems baked in and people still shoot to get as many as they can. Even if I don't use it the system will still be there assigning values to the items I have and that's not to say other people wouldn't be able to use anything they get off of me on that system.

So we can either just not give something a value, or make sure it never has one ever (i.e protect it from having a value)

Of course we could choose to vote on giving items a value instead of one person defining it, since one specific Thing may be owned by many people at once. Then again, if only one person owns that item and nobody else wants it, they may want to assign it value.

I don't think when that was written it was talking about the OP of the thread giving all Things a numerical value, more akin to something like say a hot dog Thing is worth a rock Thing or three hot dog Things are worth a lamp Thing. The only way to protect an item from ever having this numerical value would be to just never participate in the whole game of transferring things to and from other people and at that point why even sign up.

"Value" could be numerical, or instead Things could be worth different amounts of other things. While I see your point, I think having some kind of points system purely for scoreboard purposes is still a valid idea, even if it's not exactly how you or I envision it.

And no, you can't make a law without a Thing vault. I think giving this some time is warranted before we start adding new laws.
