Adium joins Damian at the tunnel's mouth, watching closely for Iapetus. For a long, tense moment, nothing further happens.

The pair coordinate, Damian conjuring a blizzard and Adium raising a wall of bronze. Heavy impacts from the other side shake the wall, but for the moment it seems to hold.

Phet stands on Ugress's back and launches a torrent of ice shards down over the wall. She can't see through the blizzard, but is reasonably sure that they were aimed roughly towards Iapetus. (-1 Vitality)

Pricey swiftly scales the bronze wall and vaults over into the blizzard on the far side. A figure appears from the storm. A lance darts forth, surpassing his defenses and opening a wide gash on his chest. Undeterred by the red flow that issues from the wound, Pricey strikes twice: Once low, once high. The Cleaver in his right hand cuts into Iapetus's leg, drawing its attention from the spectral blade that cleaves downward into its shoulder. Iapetus reels back, left arm nearly completely severed. (-10 Vitality)

Standing atop the wall, Damian looses a barrage of icy spears. Four shards find their marks, met with meaty thuds. Iapetus retreats deeper into the blizzard. (-5 Vitality)

Phet takes off the anchor and attempts to form ice on the ground in the general vicinity of Iapetus. Though she can sense the ice forming, she cannot see if Iapetus is affected.

Adium and Keli reinforce the wall with their respective magics, but to little effect.

A mangled shape appears from the blizzard, spears in hand. Seeing it face him, Damian ducks down beneath the wall. Not fast enough.

A javelin strikes Damian dead center in the chest, razor head piercing deeply and great momentum throwing him backwards off the wall. The Magi lands flat on his back, weapon still embedded in his torso. Stars spin overhead, ribs crack and shift, and his breathing comes ragged and short.

Power masses in Adium's extremities, consuming his vitality and growing with every passing moment. Pain builds in his arms and legs, but he holds on to the energy. Not yet.

Katherine touches Damian's shoulder and focuses. Five rings on her fingers glow softly with a scarlet light, and the chains connecting them hum quietly. The pain in Damian's chest eases as bone, flesh, and skin knit themselves back together. Katherine finishes the contents of the potion vial grasped in her other hand, dampening the effects of Damian's wound upon her own body.

Phet dons the anchor talisman and extends her hand. A thin veneer of frost creeps outwards onto the stone nearby, and a salty breeze wafts through the cavern. Slivers of ice, as hard and sharp as broken glass, burst forth from her palm to seek the throat of her uncanny foe. Iapetus dodges and weaves, but two splinters of ice pierce his shoulder and calf. (-1 Vitality)

Adium still does not release the power mounting within him. He holds on.

Keli quiets her mind and focuses on the task at hand, but still fails to summon the concentration necessary to reinforce the bronze wall before her to any meaningful degree.

Pricey lunges forward, ducking beneath Iapetus's outstretched spear, and performs a pair of swift cuts. The first blow rings on the shaft of a spear, but the second finds its mark in Iapetus's side. (-2 Vitality)

Adium holds on.

Damian grows a set of defensive spikes on the exterior of the bronze wall in an attempt to stave off further advances and keep Iapetus within the blizzard.

Adium lets go.

Howling light and searing wind. Magelight erupts from Adium's limbs, striking Iapetus with the force of a falling meteor. His body begins to disintegrate even as it is lifted off the ground and hurled backwards, the force of its impact spreading cracks through the stone wall.

A second explosion of Magelight shatters the rock face, sending what remains of Iapetus backwards into the newly-made dent in the wall. A third turns the dent into a deep hole, and a fourth collapses the roof.

When the dust settles, the wall lies in a pile of rubble. The only sign that Iapetus was ever there is the faint glint of something metal, half buried beneath a rock.

The red lines in Katherine's Lifeplate pulse gently. A wave of relief washes over her as the armour heals her wounded torso.

Damian and Phet crowd around to inspect the metal object. It appears to be a spear buried in the rubble, only a section of coppery haft left exposed. Jack opens his tome.

"Thorn"

"Pierce the flesh of a man or monster, and this weapon will branch out within its blood like a thistle-brush. Its thorns of bronze will spare no mortal foe, but there is no reversal to its effect. Once used, the spear is useless."

Phet pulls Thorn out from beneath the rocks. There is no spearhead or edge, the haft simply tapers down to a conical point. Polished bronze, etched with indecipherable runes, glints in the dim light.

Phet places Thorn, very carefully, into the bag. Holding out a Shard, she flips open the book in Jack's hand.

The book lies open, one page filled with illustrations and the other with text. Strangely, the diagrams do not show the broken fragment of metal: They provide a view of the completed weapon.

A great two-handed sword with seven points: A single tapering tip at the end of the blade, and six thorn-like shapes that jut forwards from each edge of the weapon. It glints brightly, blue light shining from silver steel.

"Arbiter

The blood and will of twelve gods, given shape and form. Creation, change, and destruction embodied. The hope and doom of all. None may stand in the way of Arbiter, nor dare defy its purpose.

Something odd happens as Phet reads. Starting at the bottom of the page, the paper begins to dissolve, disintegrating into dust. There was more lines of text to be read, but it is too late. She can only watch as the destruction spreads to the rest of the page.

The ashes disperse on a faint breeze, leaving no sign that the page on Arbiter had ever existed.

Katherine walks around the party, taking their wounds upon herself. When all her companions are healthy, she finishes the remainder of the group's healing potions to put herself back in fighting shape.
